2019-20 STUDENT GALLERY



ACETATE PAPER ACRYLIC PORTRAITS (8th Grade) 

Students took photos to express themselves in unique, unconventional portrait images.  Students transferred the images onto acetate paper, and painted them using an analogous color scheme of their choice.  In the background, we experimented with created a variety of colors and textures to show high contrast with the acetate sheet.  These portraits are unique, fun, colorful and the students really enjoyed the process.  Overall I would say these are a hit!


“HELP I’M FALLING” Foreshortening Portraits

(6th Grade)

Students learned how to create the illusion of depth in their artwork through foreshortening.  Students learned about complementary, analogous and monochromatic color schemes which were used in their backgrounds.  Take a look at the creative details the students added in their facial expressions and clothing.


WATERCOLOR LANDSCAPES (7th Grade)

Students learned how to create depth in flat artworks using overlapping, size relationship and placement.  Students practiced working with watercolor paint to create these soft, whimsical landscapes.


DELICIOUS FOOD PAINTINGS (8th Grade)

Students practiced using tints and shades to create these beautiful realistic acrylic paintings of their favorite foods.  Students learned about emphasis, cropping, and scaling.  Take a look!


Keith Haring Collage Sculptures (7th Grade)

Students learned about the artist Keith Haring.  Students creating sculptures out of recycled cardboard, developing form and balance.  Students learned about the art form of collage, and used collage to cover their sculptures with words and images that were of importance or personal significance to them.  The results are amazing!



2018-19 STUDENT GALLERY



STEAMPUNK MASKS (8th Grade)

Using the art elements of texture and form, students designs masks in the style of the Steampunk Era.  Students learned about the origination and history of Steampunk literature, art, movies and music.


SELF PORTRAITS (8th Grade)

​Using the grid method and scaling, students created self-portraits.  Students used drawing pencils or soft pastel pencils to complete their work.  Students reflected on their portraits by writing a poem.


MONOCHROMATIC LANDSCAPES (6th Grade)
​Using tints, shades and tones, students learned how to create space and depth in these beautiful monochromatic landscapes.


RAINY DAY COLOR WHEELS (6th Grade)

Gaining practice in color mixing, students used only primary colors to create their rainy-day inspired Color Wheels.  Students also practiced design and accuracy in measuring.

 


BURTON MORRIS INSPIRED – POP ART (6th Grade)
Using Complementary, Analogous and Triadic color schemes, students created artwork in the style of artist Burton Morris.

 


A FOUR LETTER WORD – PRINTMAKING (7th Grade)
Students created and designed prints using traditional printmaking methods.  Students used collage and paint to create letters on top of their prints, designing a four-letter word that holds meaning to them.

 


2017-18 Student Gallery

8th Grade Watercolor Projects

Students learned various techniques with watercolors.  Students used these techniques to create watercolor landscapes.  The landscapes could be realistic or surrealistic.  Students also had the option of creating ripped strips of watercolor paper or working directly on a flat paper.

 


8th Grade Value Projects

Students studied value, practicing to create lighter and darker values of shading and color.  Students were to create an artwork of their choice showing their understanding of VALUE (or shading) in art.


8th Grade Portrait Projects

Students learned how to create a portrait using correct facial proportion.  Students extended their knowledge of value from our previous unit.  Students were asked to experiment in creativity and take risks to create a realist or abstract self-portrait.  Students were then asked to write an Artist’s Statement about their work, answering the following questions: How does your self-portrait represent you?  What can we learn about you from your self-portrait.


7th Grade Styrofoam Prints

Students learned about the process of printmaking.  Students designed a plate in the theme of FALL, practiced color theory and mixing from previous knowledge (6th grade), and learned to evenly ink and print from their plates.  The process of printmaking is no easy task, and these students did wonderful work.  Take a look!


7th Grade Perspective Projects

Using the rules of one point perspective, students could choose between two different projects.  One project was to designed  a room using the rules of one point perspective, with an opening to a landscape beyond the room.  The landscape could be realistic or surrealistic.  The second option was to create a detailed landscape or cityscape using the rules of one-point perspective.  Students were encouraged to use their imaginations and creativity to design a unique art piece, and add color and/ or shading with various mediums.
