Stevenson Middle School Wins ISBE Those Who Excel Team Award

Stevenson Middle School has been honored with the ISBE Those Who Excel Team Award, recognizing its commitment to fostering a positive and supportive school culture. This award highlights the school’s efforts in promoting student achievement, positive behavior, and strong community connections through its Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program.

Stevenson sets clear expectations for all students and reinforces them daily. Principal Cox says that achievement at Stevenson improves when we are on it, own it, and show it. Teachers recognize students with praise, monthly awards, and shoutouts during announcements. Families remain engaged through various communication channels and an active Parent-Teacher Organization.

Beyond the classroom, Stevenson encourages students to give back through its Pirate Leaders program. Participants participate in food drives, clean-up events, and other service projects.

Thanks to these efforts, Stevenson has improved attendance, behavior, and student well-being. The PBIS team, consisting of Alison Butin, Samantha Barry, Catherine Macchione, Meghan Hays, Matthew Joyce, Lynette Manzo, Abriela Karemanaj, Linnea Sandstrom, Ashley Chatman, Hayden Szaltis, Lindsey Coppola, Maureen Cervi, Caroline Rico, and Erron Johnson, continues cultivating an environment where every student feels valued and motivated to succeed. Winning the ISBE Those Who Excel Award reaffirms that Stevenson Middle School is where students thrive.
