Dear District 89 families,

The health and safety of our students is our top priority. This letter is to inform you that a student, while walking to the bus stop this morning near Lake Street and 7th Avenue, reported a “suspicious” individual. The police were immediately notified, and a report was made. The Police Departments in our communities will provide additional presence outside the schools in our District.

We ask for your support in the following ways:

• Have a discussion with your child about safety and unfamiliar people
• Assure he or she is aware of surroundings (not on their cell phones or listening to loud music on headphones)
• Walk in pairs or in a group when possible
• Encourage him or her to report any suspicious activity to a trusted adult
